General notes

We collect and use your personal data in accordance with the data protection laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. More specifically, our data protection policy is defined by the regulations set out in the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and in some cases more specific legal provisions such as those included in the Telecommunications Act (TKG) and Telemedia Act (TMG) in particular.

The aforementioned laws, regulations and provisions concern personal data. Personal data takes the form of individual pieces of information on the personal and material circumstances of a particular or determinable natural person. Examples of personal data in postal correspondence, emails and online forms include a person’s name, address and email address.

In the following sections we inform you about the type, scope and purpose of the data logged when you visit our website. We also explain the terms under which it is gathered. Our Data Protection Policy is available to view on our website at all times.

Website use (logging)

Every visit to our website and every retrieval of a file it contains is logged. Logging occurs for internal system-related and statistical purposes. The following data is logged: Name of the file retrieved; date and time of retrieval; volume of data transferred; notification of successful retrieval; browser version on the retriever’s host system; operating system version on the retriever’s host system. In the case of visitors who are registered with the Alumni Network the date and time of their last login to the Alumni Network portal is also logged.

Personal data over and above that detailed above is submitted on a voluntary basis (for example additional information submitted when you register as a member of the Alumni Network).

Compulsory and voluntary submission of personal data

It is necessary to gather a certain amount of personal data in order to provide you with the correct content in the Alumni Network portal as well as enable other registered members to find you. One requirement of the registration process is that you submit your first name, last name, email address and postal address. Any additional information you choose to submit is provided on a voluntary basis and makes it easier for you to search for and make contact with other network members. It also enables us to tailor content to your interests.

With a few exceptions the submission of personal data does not automatically mean that it will be visible to other network members. You can change the visibility settings for the majority of your personal data in the “My Profile” menuThe following applies to email correspondence and online forms: Any data submitted to us is protected using technical and organizational measures in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Data Protection Act and the Telemedia Act. By sending an email or an online form you consent to the purpose-specific storage, processing and use of your personal data. We only use your personal data for the purposes of answering your questions and technical administration. In accordance with §§ 34 BDSG, 13 para. 7 TMG you have the right to information on personal data submitted by you and stored by us. In accordance with § 35 BDSG you have the right to demand the correction, deletion or blocking of that personal data at any time. Your statutory rights entitle you to receive information on personal data submitted by you and stored by us free of charge, at any time and without naming the grounds for your request. You are entitled to revoke your consent to the gathering and use of your personal data at any time and without naming the grounds for your revocation.

How your data is used

Personal data submitted during the registration process and the administration of your Alumni Network profile is exclusively used to provide services within the context of alumni-related work carried out by HFT Stuttgart (including its faculties and programmes). It will not be passed on or sold to third parties.

How your data is checked and processed

The Alumni Office at HFT Stuttgart checks the plausibility of newly received registrations in order to prevent any misuse of the Alumni Network portal. Once your registration has been checked and approved you will receive a confirmation email to the address you provided to us. You can then change or add to your profile, remove individual personal details or delete your entire profile at any time.

Terms of use

As a user you are only entitled to use the portal for its intended purpose (i.e. to communicate with other former HFT Stuttgart students and the university itself as well as to access information on alumni-related activities, events and offers). You are not entitled to give third parties access to your login data, use the portal for non-private (i.e. commercial) purposes or create digital copies of data on network members. In addition, you are obliged to only log into the portal using your own identity and refrain from posting offensive, discriminatory or illegal content to the portal.
By registering with HFT Stuttgart’s Alumni Network you consent to the purpose-specific storage and use of your data in accordance with both the aforementioned provisions and our terms of use.
